Cyclists who prefer to take to the asphalt at night are definitely at a higher risk of getting knocked down – after all, visibility is low whenever the sun decides to shine on the other half of the earth, so what can you do to keep yourself as visible as possible to the other motorists? Apart from wearing a brightly colored jacket and making sure you have a Cat’s Eye at the back and some lights in front, how about making sure your rims light up via the Aura system?

Aura is the brainchild of a couple of industrial design sophomores at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where it relies on half a dozen groups of three tri-color LEDs which are juiced by a dynamo generator. It is meant to address the issue of nightime bicycling accidents, and I would go so far on a limb as to say it would work like magic. Just how much are you willing to pay for a system like the Aura? After all, how do you think a life is worth?
