Explosive sniffer dogs are extremely capable creatures who do an excellent job in sweeping an area to make sure that it is free from potential disaster, no thanks to a stashed-away explosive pack or something of the equivalent. Of course, it takes plenty of time, effort and money not to mention the right kind of gene combination in a dog to have it work at such a high level without making any mistakes. What better way to “preserve” such a pooch than through the use of clones?
A couple of dog-breeding companies from Australia will work hand in hand with South Korean scientists to clone explosives and drug sniffer dogs, and their work is nearly complete since the first batch of ten dogs will enter into service a couple of years from now. These cloned dogs from Australia will be “created” from tissue samples taken from a German shepherd known as Hassan von Gruntal, who unfortunately passed on a decade ago.
It seems that the initial batch of cloned explosives and drugs sniffer dogs will be available only to Australian government agencies and companies in the private sector by the time 2013 rolls around.
