The plunge in the Dow Jones index as well as markets retreating in Europe and Asia signal only one thing – your money can be here today, and gone tomorrow. So why not spend it on stuff which you can keep? I’m sure your new smartphone won’t halve in value the moment it is opened, unlike your stocks that might just plummet to the abyss and never recover for good. Motorola knows that not everyone is in the market for a high end smartphone, which is why they had their engineers work on the Motorola XT531 which ain’t too shabby looking, actually.

This slim Android smartphone will come with a 3.5″ extra-bright touchscreen display, in addition to dual cameras that does video capture as well as video calls, in addition to catering for your social networking needs. Well, being budget-friendly, it will first appear in China, followed by Hong Kong, Taiwan and select countries in Europe and Latin America from this fall onwards – which isn’t too far away, actually.

Nice to know Motorola has thrown in the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system without leaving you waiting for an update unlike other manufacturers. It will have a 800Mhz processor, 512MB RAM, a microSD memory card slot, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS support, a built-in FM radio and a 1540mAh battery. No idea on pricing, but as mentioned earlier, it isn’t going to break the bank. Who says that affordability and style cannot go hand-in-hand?  [Press Release]
