Verizon Wireless knows that some of you might just want to throw your handset in frustration because they are going to perform a crackdown on illegal tethering, and should you happen to break your smartphone, perhaps you might want to look forward to a rugged handset such as the Samsung Convoy 2 instead? This is the carrier’s latest military-grade offering, where it is resistant not only to shock but dust, sand, solar radiation(!), salt fog, humidity, and extreme temperatures. If you’re one who loves living it out in terms of an adventurous lifestyle, then this is the handset for you.

As with most other rugged phones, it will not shine in terms of specifications, offering entry level or mid-range hardware at best. The Convoy 2 slips into this demographic comfortably, where you get a 2.2″ QVGA resolution display, a secondary external display that shows notifications, a 3.2-megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity, GPS navigation, and push-to-talk functionality. Opera Mini is pre-loaded to have you surfing right out of the box.

It will cost you $80 to bring home the Samsung Convoy 2 with a 2-year contract. Place an online order today, or if you prefer interacting with humans, it will arrive at brick and mortar Verizon Wireless stores in a few weeks’ time.
