If you happen to own one of the first generation of Symbian^3 devices (we’re talking about the Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 and E7), then the Promised Land is here – the Symbian Anna software update is now ready to be downloaded, where this update will deliver a slew of new icons, a portrait QWERTY keyboard for easier typing, speedier web browsing and superior maps over what its predecessor offered. Guess N8 users who gave the leaked version a go yesterday could have done better to wait for one more day, no?

First of all, the portrait QWERTY keyboard is suitable for fast, single-handed typing, while a split-screen view lets you check out anything else that is happening in the background while you type. Ovi Maps is also simpler and quicker to search, while you get to take advantage of public transport routes.

Symbian Anna will also activate the NFC hardware in the Nokia C7, making it a whole lot easier to share as well as reading NFC tags on other items. You can experience the Symbian Anna update via Ovi Suite on the PC or over SW Update app on your handset. Since this is one huge download, you would best connect via Wi-Fi, and make sure your phone is fully charged!
