Getting your laundry done can be quite a therapeutic experience, especially at those DIY laundromats, where a good book or a charming stranger might just help you pass the time while your dirty clothes get cleaned. LG intends to change the way laundromats work with the introduction of the Laundry Lounge, which will offer customers a far more modern outlook and amenities – throwing in free Internet access as well as HDTVs so that you will feel more at home.

The Laundry Lounge will be located on the Upper Westside of New York City, being the first of its kind – and LG hopes that should this idea take off, then a similar concept will be introduced around the US, where each Laundry Lounge will feature LG’s own ultra-energy-efficient line of ENERGY STAR qualified commercial clothes washers alongside dryers.

We do know that the New York laundry lounge is owned and operated by Super Laundry, and over there, you will find a trio of LG LED HDTVs and free Internet access. I suppose this will make people more inward looking or absorbed in their own lives, since you can always check your Facebook account there while waiting instead of chatting with people in real life. Ah well, times change, so we must, too. [Press Release]
