Most smartphone users on iOS and Android are probably aware of foursquare, which is a popular application that allows users to “check in” to various locations and share that information with their friends. One of the features that makes it so fun is that it comes with an achievement system that can be unlocked, which makes checking in less mundane and more exciting, and in conjunction with Social Media Week, Nokia together with foursquare have installed a “Social Gift Machine” in Glasgow.

The machine is hooked up to the internet and has its own hash-tag, and all the user has to do is “check in” to the machine via foursquare and they will be given a gift (head on down here for the instructions). For those living in Glasgow, the machine is location at The Sky Park on Elliot Place, and while we’re not sure what sort of gifts/rewards the machine has been handing out to the recipients, it appears that you could be lucky enough to win yourself a Nokia N8 device, or so one lucky winner claims.
