Getting behind the wheel for the first time can be an exciting moment for many, and most of us would give our full concentration so that we don’t bump into anything or anyone – and answering the phone or responding to a text message is the last thing on our minds. Well, when you are a seasoned driver, you tend to start taking things for granted – and that could lull you into a false sense of security, thinking that it is OK to operate a phone while driving. Sprint thinks otherwise, and has just rolled out the Sprint Drive First app that will lock your handset automatically each time you travel faster than 10mph. In fact, your phone will be a dud then – all incoming calls will be redirected to your voice mail, while alerts and incoming messages will be silenced.

As long as you’re using a Sprint CDMA Android-powered smartphone, you will be able to take advantage of Sprint Drive First for $2 each month per handset, while those using BlackBerry smartphones and other mobile operating systems will have to wait for the coming months before Sprint Drive First arrives. This is definitely a step in the right direction towards reducing totally unnecessary accidents on the road – what do you think? [Press Release]
