CyanogenMod Ice Cream Sandwich for tablets in the works Good news Android tablet owners! It seems that according to Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik himself, it appears that CyanogenMod will be coming to tablets as well, which is great news especially since most manufacturers have only announced official updates for their smartphones, leaving many to wonder about the fate of tablets.

We reported last week that CyanogenMod 9 was in the works for smartphones, and like we had mentioned in our post, CM9 will not be available any time soon, with Steve Kondik inviting the public to check back with them in two months time which does not necessarily indicate a possible release date, but rather an update on its progress. Since the CM9 for smartphones will not be arriving any time soon, we’ll have to wonder when the ICS ROM will arrive for tablet. Either way we’re happy that it’s at least in the works.

Android: Android is the mobile operating system from Google. The software was originally built by a company called Android Inc, that was purchased by Google in 2005. From its modest debuts, Android has become a powerhouse that powers not only smartphones and tablet, but a host of other less high-profile devices and gadgets. CyanogenMod: CyanogenMod is an alternative firmware that is based on the Android operating system. It is seen as more versatile that the stock firmware which comes in such devices, offering more features and options such as theme support, Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) compatibility, a huge repository of Access Point Name list (APN), an OpenVPN client, a souped up reboot menu, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB tethering support, the ability to overclock your device's CPU and perform enhancements, and soft buttons among others. One good thing about CyanogenMod is the obvious omission of pre-installed spyware or bloatware.
