Facebook is currently the 800 lbs gorilla when it comes to social networking, so if you are going to leverage on a ready base of users who love communicating with one another, why not use it to carry your software – Skype for example? That’s what Microsoft did, where Skype 5.4 Beta for Mac and Skype 5.7 Beta for Windows will allow you to hold a Facebook-to-Facebook call from within Skype itself, how neat is that? This would mark the latest step in partnership between Facebook and Skype, where it will mark the further erosion of communication barriers on the digital platform.

Want to make a chat right now? Just click the Facebook icon on the left side of the screen, allow Skype to access Facebook data via the Facebook Connect button, and you’re good to go. Needless to say, doing so would mean allowing Facebook to access a whole lot of information about you before its functionality can be activated. Standard text chatting and video chat will be covered, so whenever you place a call via Skype, the other user on Facebook can accept the call, as a video chat window pops-up on the Facebook screen. How do you find this latest update? [Press Release]
