Sony could very well look to revolutionize the way game controllers work in the future (perhaps after getting some inspiration from Nintendo and their once maligned “waggle” controls over with the Wii) by filing a patent for biometric controllers. Could these newfangled controllers actually see action in the next version of the PlayStation? We will remain open to that possibility, but in the mean time, here is more information on the patent filing.
It would definitely be worth checking out at just what Sony might do with such a sensing technology patent, where biometric sensors will be incorporated into future DualShock 3, PlayStation Move controllers and a handheld device which could very well be the sequel to the PlayStation Vita. These biometric sensors are able to sense factors including galvanic skin resistance, electrocardio data and electro-muscular data.
Imagine the scene from the original Metal Gear Solid where you need to snipe someone, but without taking a drug, your heartbeat and shaky nerves make it nigh impossible to shoot your target – perhaps this new technology will do the same in real time, measuring your skin moisture, heart rhythm and muscle movements while playing and translating those data into your on-screen avatar.
