Windows 8 setupOne of the most daunting experiences that people will remember about Windows is the long and arduous setup process. While it’s improved a lot since the days of Windows 95, installing Windows on a new computer is still not something that everyone is up for. Well, according to a post on the Windows 8 blog, it’s one of the reasons why people haven’t been upgrading to the latest version of Windows – Microsoft plans to eliminate this problem by making the installation experience faster and easier.

Windows 8 will have a streamlined setup that users access by running an .exe file and an advanced setup that is accessed by booting off a DVD or USB key. By doing this, the less tech-savvy users will be able to easily upgrade Windows by just running an .exe file and following the instructions, while advanced users who want more control over the setup process still have access to all the options by running the installation from boot.

The number of screens required to input information has also been reduced, Upgrade Advisor and Easy Transfer have been integrated with the main installation and the folder moving process has been sped up (by using hard links instead of physically moving them). The Windows 8 setup will also be optimized for web delivery, which means there’s no longer a need to purchase physical versions of the operating system as well (though the option is there for people who want to).

These changes to Windows 8’s installation process should result in a larger number of people updating their computers to the latest version of Windows – at least Microsoft hopes so. How many of you still aren’t using Windows 7?
