Breakout: BoostRemember back in 1976 when Atari took the world by storm with its block breaking game, Breakout? I’m sure most of you don’t but you probably would’ve played something similar released later. It looks like the company plans to reclaim its glory days by releasing the game again, but this time on modern devices. Atari has just announced the launch of Breakout: Boost for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The brand-new free to play game will feature five levels, 200 unlockable levels (via in-app purchases) and new power-ups, bricks and gameplay additions.

One new feature that a lot of players will find welcome in Breakout: Boost will be the ability to save and restore in-game progress – perfect for those times when you’re running low on battery but don’t want to lose your highscore. OpenFeint and Game Center integration means this game will be another title you can use for bragging rights within your social circle. No word on when the game will be released, but you can “like” the official Breakout: Boost page on Facebook to stay updated.
