Earlier today we reported that RIM released an update for the BlackBerry PlayBook that closed up the exploit used by the Dingleberry root method, which meant that users weren’t able to root their tablets once they updated. It was reported that the only way to stay rooted would be to not upgrade the PlayBook or if you’ve upgraded – downgrade and root again. Well, it looks like that won’t be necessary anymore.
Chris Wade, the hacker/developer behind Dingleberry has announced that the latest version of his tool will be able to work with upgraded PlayBooks – it uses an entirely different method to gain super user permissions on the tablet. It wasn’t mentioned what it was (I guess he doesn’t want to inform RIM about it) but seeing how quickly he responded to RIM’s update, I guess it was already discovered beforehand. Well it looks like the ball is back in RIM’s court – let the cat and mouse games continue.
