One of the drawbacks to owning an older car is that it probably does not come with the latest entertainment system with syncing of smartphones and what not. In fact you’d most likely end up with a car with a CD player by default, unless you decide to drop a bit of cash and upgrade it yourself.

Well the good news is that Ford has released what they’re calling the USB Music Box that will allow users to plug in a USB flash drive or their phones/MP3 players to their car’s stereo, thus allowing them to play whatever music they want while driving. Sure, there are alternatives to radio, such as FM transmitters, an audio cable connected to your stereo’s AUX input, CDs, etc, but with the USB Music Box you will have another option.

The USB Music Box will be connected to your stereo’s AUX input and you can control playback via a steering wheel mounted remote control. Not just limited to playing music, the USB Music Box will also be able to charge smartphones and tablets that can be charged via USB, which is pretty much most smartphones and tablets these days. The Ford USB Music Box will be available on New Year’s Day itself for £82.99, but no word if there are plans to bring this little gadget to the US. [Press release]
