Microsoft So.cl announcedMicrosoft Research intends to empower students to network with their peers via the Microsoft So.cl site, where it is capable of letting one share useful information in a jiffy, while enabling users to build their own pages which are smart enough to collect information relevant to the topic at hand, from both inside as well as outside the classroom, to turn both the web and social networks into the new classroom. This experimental research project will target students in information and design schools at the University of Washington, Syracuse University, and New York University. In due time, expect additional schools to be added to the white list, which might just see So.cl’s use expand as a learning and information-gathering tool.

So.cl intends to hook up students who have shared interests, letting them construct their own virtual communities as well as collections around similar healthy pursuits over the Internet – and this will certainly be a step in the right direction for students to learn more, since one is able to broaden his or her interests through the connection of folks with similar areas of interests.
