When it comes to portable consoles, Nintendo is king – no other gaming console manufacturer is able to come close to it in terms of sales figures and the kind of cult following, starting with those classic Game & Watch devices, followed by the phenomenal Game Boy and its many iterations, and now, the Nintendo 3DS that offers next generation 3D gaming on the go. While the Nintendo 3DS has failed to sell as well as the its predecessor, the Nintendo DS, that does not mean it has very weak sales. In fact, it is tipped to surpass the four million mark a couple of months earlier than expected.
A fortnight ago, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stepped forward to say that the magical 4 million mark will happen “in February next year”, but according to Japanese business daily The Nikkei, the cumulative domestic sales of the Nintendo 3DS will touch four million before the year is over, drawing this conclusion after looking at statistics from Tokyo-based market research company Enterbrain. After all, Nintendo moved a weekly record of 390,000 systems for the week of December 12-18. Here is to the next 4 million, Nintendo!
