Nihon Dengyo Kosaku Co Ltd (Dengyo) of Japan has come up with a spanking new device under the “Microwave Regenerative Converter” category that features nothing but 2.4GHz-band rectennas. This particular device is one of the smaller ones in the series, where the main purpose would be to harvest the microwave oven’s excess electromagnetic energy that do not see action when it comes to doing its bit to heat up food. A rectenna is basically a device that will merge both an antenna and a rectifier, where it will change electromagnetic waves into direct-current power.

One of the parameters that you might want to take note of would be ηh (heating efficiency), which fluctuates the most simply because it depends on food or materials, and can range anywhere from 0% to 90%. For example, food and materials that contain much water tend to have high ηh, and vice versa, so the lower the heating efficiency (ηh), the higher the regeneration efficiency ηt. Will we be looking at our microwave ovens in a different light from now on?
