Home > Apple > Atari 2600 modified into an iOS speaker dock

Looking for a blast from the past? Well, for some of us who are old enough to have experienced the joys of playing the Atari 2600 console, you might want to check out this Atari 2600 console which has seen itself transformed and remodeled into a speaker dock for the iPhone and the iPod touch.

This project was undertaken by Daniel McLeod of Black Mountain Audio, and essentially the speaker dock has been made out of the shell of the Atari 2600 console. The innards of the console have been removed and replaced with a couple of computer speakers, and the slot where the gaming cartridge usually goes has been replaced with a 30-pin connector dock for iOS devices.

While we can’t really speak for the quality of this Atari 2600 speaker dock for iOS, its sheer novelty and vintage/retro value might be good enough reason for some of you guys to go out there and pick it up for yourselves. It appears that Daniel McLeod only has one such model available, but if you’re interested you will be able to buy it off his Etsy page for $100.
