[CES 2012] I would dare venture to say that most folks involved in the gaming scene rather deeply would know who Ben Heck is – modder extraordinary, and his most recent exploit would see the transformation of the Apple iPhone into what he calls “the ultimate hand-held gaming device.” Seriously, is it going to kick some Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita butt? Let us take a closer look. Ben Heck came up with this iPhone mod to pay homage to CES 2012, and even hardcore Android fans would be impressed by Ben’s effort this time around. Here is what Ben says, “CES starts today, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting project than one that combines my love for video games with a device that many consumers are extremely passionate about. Sure, the iPhone is a great device for game play already, but I wanted to take it to the next level for the ultimate mobile gaming enthusiast.”

Ben first deconstructed an iCade system which lets the iPad integrate a scaled-down version of the circuitry, and continued by hooking up a PodBreakout board to a simulated battery. Voltage is borrowed from the iPad so that the Bluetooth chipset receives enough juice to power the iPhone for mobile gaming purposes. definitely not for the faint hearted, but the final product is something else altogether.
