The legal battle between Apple and Samsung is far from over, and the Mannheim Regional Court rejected the second of Samsung’s patent infringement claims against Apple earlier this morning. Similar in nature to last week’s ruling, today’s decision will put to be Samsung’s point of view that Apple’s 3G/UMTS technology actually crossed the borders of Samsung’s patents. According to Judge Andreas Voss, he did not deliver a reason for his ruling at the moment, although I am quite sure in due time, the relevant details will be revealed to all and sundry. Such initial decisions against Samsung could be based on the validity of the specific patents themselves, and this will ultimately have no bearing whatsoever on the three other claims by Samsung, since those are based on different 3G/UMTS patents. Intellectual property is king these days, don’t you think so?
