While it appears that HTC’s first Android tablet offering, the Flyer, may have been discontinued, it does not mean that the Taiwanese company has decided to completely forsake remaining users. If the recent set of rumors are to be believed, it looks like the HTC Flyer could be in for a major update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the first quarter of 2012.

Apparently this was tipped by a customer service representative who was dealing with a customer who was frustrated by the changes in the Android Honeycomb update. The customer service rep supposedly told the customer that he/she could either send the tablet in to be downgraded to Gingerbread 2.3, or wait for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update that was scheduled for Q1 of 2012.

Naturally customer service reps do get it wrong from time to time, so we suggest that HTC Flyer owners not get their hopes up just yet and that this rumor should not be taken as an official confirmation of sorts! However should the rumor turn out to be true, it looks like HTC Flyers could be in for a treat in Q1 this year, but until then it should be taken with a grain of salt.
