If you want to create an eBook using Apple’s iBooks Author app, make sure you read the End User License Agreement before starting anything. According to reports online, all books created with iBooks Author can only be distributed and sold by Apple. This means that your iBooks Author created masterpiece can’t be sold anywhere else. Here’s what the restriction has to say:
“If you charge a fee for any book or other work you generate using this software … you may only sell or distribute such Work through Apple (e.g., through the iBookstore) and such distribution will be subject to a separate agreement with Apple.”
Now you might think that it’s a fair move – after all, Apple did give away iBooks Author for free and doesn’t force anybody to use it, or even pay for its services. So for those of you thinking of creating an eBook that can be sold on multiple platforms – make sure you don’t create it using iBooks Author. What do you think of this restriction?
