Home > Apple > iOS 5.1 beta sheds light on quad-core chip possibility

It goes without saying that the world of technology is an evolutionary one, no two ways about it. Having said that, I am quite sure that many of us do hope to see Cupertino roll out a new quad-core processor with the same naming convention as the A5 sometime down the road, and that day might arrive sooner than you think. After all, references to the devices in Apple’s most recent iOS 5.1 beta release do shed more light on the situation, where some claim that this software will offer quad-core processing as well. 9to5Mac claims that “hidden deep inside” the iOS 5.1 beta lies updated “processing-core management software” that is more than ready to wrap its arms around quad-core iOS devices.

Those who are familiar with iOS’ inner workings say that iOS 5.1 beta 2 will come with core.3, which is a quad-core chip from Apple that has yet to be released to the masses. When developers unleash the full power of the quad-core processor in iOS devices, expect the kind of apps and software that you will “enjoy” to blow your mind away – when done right, of course.

iOS was once upon a time called iPhone OS, or "operating system", which is the software that provides all the basic device functionality and is the interface between the hardware and applications. iOS was introduced with the iPhone on January 9 2007, and it was originally not intended to be programmable by third parties. Steve Jobs had envisioned that developers could create Web Apps that would run in the browser. This changed less than one year after when the iPhone SDK (software development kit) was introduced in October 2007. Today, hundreds of thousands of apps have been created for this platform. iPhone OS became iOS on June 2010. Interestingly, both iPhone and iOS were former trademarks of Cisco, that Apple now uses under a license.
