The Space Shuttle program might have been scrapped, but that does not mean no one should not have a go at heading towards space. Two 17-year old schoolboys, Mathew Ho and Asad Muhammad have managed to send a Legonaut – which is actually one of those classic Lego minifigs, out to the edge of space without having to break the bank or dip into their college account. After all, the total amount of money spent was just $400, where a surplus weather balloon was purchased for $85, while they slung a styrofoam box that had a bunch of gel hand warmers underneath it, in addition to throwing in a trio of point and shoot cameras accompanied by a video camera to capture their potentially historic moment. Using $165 worth of helium to fill up the balloon, the Legonaut was then launched to the edge of space, where he ascended to approximately 85,000 feet, leading the balloon to burst as the entire shebang then conformed to the law of gravity and came smashing down on earth, landing around 75 miles from the Ontario launch site.
