[CES 2012] CES 2012 is the platform for Phorus to roll out their PlayCast wireless audio dock that caters for Android devices, and this is the first wireless home audio speaker of its kind that was developed from ground up for the Android platform. Phorus claims that the PlayCast streams music with pristine, lossless audio quality while riding piggyback on a Wi-Fi connection to premium PlayCast Speakers as long as the device runs on the Android operating system – it does not matter whether that is a smartphone or tablet. Touted to be a major advancement compared to current Bluetooth-enabled options, PlayCast Speakers can be linked for multi-room whole-house enjoyment, and if you prefer to fly solo, have them play different streams of music from several Android devices simultaneously in an independent manner.

Capable of delivering powerful volume and sound over a 360-degree radius, the PlayCast is definitely a beauty to look at, and just in case you wonder how come it looks and works rather similar to other devices from more notable brands, that is because a team of audio experts with extensive experience on harman/kardon, JBL and Infinity products have rallied together to churn out the PlayCast Speaker that boasts Class D digital amplification, and 802.11n connectivity. It will arrive in the market this March for $199 a pop.
