It is nearly a year since the mega disaster which comprised an earthquake and a tsunami hit Japan, wiping out entire villages in the process while killing thousands of people with its path of destruction that also turned once-fertile farmland into one that is ravaged by salt, oil and radiation. Sending humans back there to irradiated hotspots is not a good idea at all, so why not leverage Japan’s technology in terms of robots, by deploying “robot farmers” to revitalize the land? Dubbed the “Dream Project”, these robot tractors will perform hard labor tasks remotely such as cleaning up, planting and harvesting the fields. Not only that, these robot farmers can be programmed to box up crops including rice, wheat, soybeans, fruits and vegetables. The first of these robots will get to work on a 600-acre site located in the Miyagi prefecture which lies approximately 200 miles north of Tokyo. You can check out just how these robots work in the video after the jump. Having said that, nuclear submarines should have some sort of rover robot to avoid a repeat of the K-19 Widowmaker in the future, don’t you think so?
