It was just yesterday that we speculated on spotting the Sony MT27i, also known by its codename Pepper, and here we are with the rumored smartphone appearing on a NenaMark benchmark instead. This handset is tipped to be powered by the ST-Ericsson U8500 chipset, and the NenaMark benchmark did lay to rest the speculation of any other mention of different chipsets in the process. Sporting a GPU that was listed as the “ARM Mali-400 MP”, this particular GPU sees action in ST-Ericsson’s NovaThor family of chipsets (U5500, U8500 and U9500).
Apart from that, the benchmark did reveal additional information such as a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, not to mention the Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread operating system which should place it pretty updated. Surely the Pepper is a shoo-in as the successor to the Xperia neo, considering how it has a 1GHz dual-core chipset, a 3.7″ display at 480 x 854 pixels, a 5-megapixel camera at the back and a sealed battery. Surely Mobile World Congress cannot come fast enough now!
