There is nothing quite like suffering from a bill shock due to you forgetting to turn off the data roaming option on your phone whenever you go traveling, so T-Mobile wants to stick to the adage that “prevention is better than cure”, and hence has offered domestic data roaming limits their phone plans on April 5. This is in stark contrast to what is available at the moment – that is, there are no limits whatsoever on domestic roaming. T-Mobile will inform their customers that such adjustments will kick into place soon, and the limits will be staggered. For instance, the 2GB plan will be limited to just 50MB of data, while the 5GB plan will get double the amount, and the 10GB plan will come with a 200MB limit.

T-Mobile will also inform their users with a text message the moment they start to approach near the assigned amount, and when you cross the mark, all roaming data services will trickle to a stop, leaving you to rely on nothing but a Wi-Fi network to go online from your smartphone. The plan will naturally reset itself after each billing cycle, although several plans will be exempt from such rationing, including business and government accounts, T-Mobile employee accounts, mobile broadband rate plans, voice domestic roaming, and text and picture messaging while roaming.
