China is now the world’s second largest economy while holding the record of being the most populous country as well, and it does seem as though this economy of scale is going to help its companies slowly but surely gain a foothold as well in different industries. Take smartphone manufacturer ZTE for instance – it has already overtaken Apple worldwide since 2011, at least that is what IDG claims. ZTE in fact doubled its shipped products in Q4 compared to the previous quarter, and experienced a year-over-year increase of by almost 60%. At point of publishing, they more or less own nearly 5% of global market share where smartphones are concerned. ZTE has now set their sights on the US as their primary market by the time 2015 rolls around, and in line with that vision, they hope to double their sales over the next year. Do you think we might see more and more ZTE phones in the US down the road compared to Apple’s iPhone?
