Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is just starting to get mainstream, and here we are with rumors of the next version of Android hitting the road already, although there has been no nickname attached to it just yet. What kind of sweet nouns do you think will be used to describe Android 5.0? Comments made by Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice president of engineering for mobile at Google, said, “After Android 4 comes 5, and we haven’t announced the timing yet, which we’re still sorting out. There’s a lot of engineering work behind it still, and there’s also just the question of how to time it. In general, the Android release cadence is one major release a year with some maintenance releases that are substantial still.”

Those statements do point towards a fall 2012 time frame, considering how Android 4.0 was rolled out in November last year. After Cup Cake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich, do we have a Pecan Pie or a Chocolate Cake for Android 5.0?
