BTjunkieA couple of weeks ago, Megaupload was shut down by the authorities and slowly we’ve begun to feel the repercussions of the move. Filesonic no longer shares files, and a number of other torrent sites have decided to close their doors for good. Now it’s time to say goodbye to yet another major bittorrent tracker. As of today, BTJunkie, one of the top Bit Torrent sites for the past seven years has decided to close its doors voluntarily. According to an announcement on its website, here’s what it had to say:

“This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down. We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on. It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!”

While there are tons of other trackers available out there, it does feel sad to bid farewell to one of the giants. Perhaps we’ll see it rise again in some other shape or form in the future? Until then, RIP BTjunkie. I wonder which site will be next to go?
