When you drop your iPhone and it breaks despite it being in a supposed protective case, and your warranty just ran out – who’s to blame? Well you could take the case manufacturer to court and blame them for false advertising, but it might be a long and expensive process, not to mention there’s always the chance of the judge ruling in their favor. So if you’re the type who drops their phone often but would like to have peace of mind (as far as warranty/insurance is concerned), cellpig’s cellhelmet Kickstarter project might be an iPhone case worth investing in.

According to cellpig, the cellhelmet iPhone case is made out of thermoplastic polyurethane rubber which promises to provide the “ultimate protection”. While that has yet to be proven, what makes the cellhelmet case different from other iPhone cases is that it actually offers the owner free insurance for an entire year. cellpig has managed to team up with Global Warranty Group and basically if you drop your iPhone and it gets damaged while inside its cellhelmet case, you will be guaranteed free repairs.

It seems that you can claim as many times as you like over the year, and cellpig even promises to replace your phone if it’s completely beyond repair, although that is limited to just a one off claim. Interested in the cellhelmet? If you are, head on over to its Kickstarter page where a pledge of $40 will net you the casing plus insurance when it gets put into production.
