Most common smoke detectors we know emit a shrill, banshee-rivaling sound to make sure you are aware that there is a possibility of fire at the place you’re at – more often than not, being loud enough to wake up even the dead. Well, is there a way to alert people in a building of a fire without such smoke detectors? Enter the Dutch designed Chick-A-Dee smoke detector, where it will mimic the American Black-capped Chicadee through its signature “chick-a-dee” call whenever smoke is detected. In order to make sure you are alerted, it will then move into a loud, sustained 85 decibel sound as the general situation worsens as thicker smoke start to appear.
When not in use, the Chick-A-Dee does not look intrusive at all, resembling a plastic bird that is perched on a little twig that is mounted from your ceiling. The majority of folks will most probably think that that this is a piece of home decor, but when they see a Chick-A-Dee in every single room, surely some questions will arise. You can choose from white, pink and blue shades for variety at $75 a pop.
