Yes, we all know that Google released the Chrome for Android beta yesterday which might eventually end up as the most popular browser on the Android platform when all devices run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich eventually. The next question would be this – will there be Chrome for iOS eventually? After all, it is not to say that Google has refrained from making available their wide range of services to the iOS platform to date, including Gmail and Google Maps. With Chrome for Android beta’s range of impressive features, we think that surfing on an iOS-powered device with a ported browser would also be worth taking into consideration.
When asked of the possibility of Chrome heading to iOS, Google SVP of Chrome Sundar Pichai mentioned, “It’s a tough question for us.” After all, Apple has placed their fair share of limitations on iOS, and Google would definitely want to see inclusion of their V8 JavaScript engine, something that is not possible on Apple’s side. However, the open source layout engine known as WebKit that is used by the Mobile Safari browser offers a glimmer of hope, since Google also makes use of it – which might translate to a relatively easy job to deliver Chrome on iOS. What do you think?
