Thanks to modern technology, we are now more self reliant than ever before. The SQUID smart shirt certainly makes sure of that for health buffs who want nothing better than a nice, calorie burning workout at the gym. After all, since we have smartphones, smart paint and smart windows around, why not a smart shirt? This unique piece of clothing was developed by a team of senior engineering and graphic design students from Northeastern University. Boasting plenty of sensors all over the place which are located at strategic areas, the t-shirt is capable of monitoring muscle output and efficiency during workouts, while being hooked up to an Android app in addition to an interactive website so that it can track biofeedback and progress in real-time.

Also known as SQUID, it can be used by the layman as well as serious athletes who throw themselves knee deep into physical training regularly. Amateurs too, will be able to benefit from SQUID by fully optimizing their time at the gym. This compression athletic shirt will feature with a number of sensors attached at strategic areas, where they are able to capture and translate electronic signals which are the result of moving muscles, into data followed by sending such data to an app and website for further analysis. The result? Measured workouts as well as a progress chart that you can fine tune to achieve your fitness goals. This is still in the prototype stage, and SQUID is expected to hit the market in two or three years’ time.
