For those of you in the US who were thinking of picking up a PS Vita in order to enjoy discounted Vita downloads of the disc-based UMD games that you purchased for the PSP, I am sorry to report this bit of news – a Sony representative informed gaming blog Kotaku that the “UMD Passport” service will in fact, be unavailable to American Vita owners. This is a bummer, as any way to save money is always more than welcome, what more with the world’s economy being in the doldrums for the better part of a few years now. You can still pick up the entire gamut of digitally-distributed PSP games via the PS Vita’s PlayStation Store of course and enjoy them on your shiny new hardware – in addition to reliving those moments with purchased PSN games on your PSP. As for the UMD titles, just make sure you do not sell your PSP away, otherwise, they would lack a mothership to return to when the retro gaming itch bites you.
