Avira, the folks behind the popular anti-virus solution for desktop computers has entered the mobile space with the launch of its first app on the Android Market – Avira Free Android Security (surprise, surprise – what else would a security company come up with?). Not unlike numerous other apps in the Market, Free Android Security is designed to help folks ensure their data is safe when their phones go missing or are stolen.
With Avira Free Android Security, users can trigger loud noises from the phone remotely, even when it is on silent mode, lock it remotely, pinpoint the phone’s location using its GPS, let people who find the phone call the owner, and monitor the battery life of the phone as well as other details. Multiple devices can also be managed from a single account, for those of you with more than one phone.
If you’re looking for an app to do such things, you could give Avira Free Android Security a shot. After all it is free. However, the app is still in beta, so expect to encounter problems while using it. Head over to the Android Market.
