The DARwin-OP humanoid robot has just gotten an upgrade which should make it happy, assuming robots can feel and have emotions in the first place. Robotis, the manufacturer behind the majority of the servos, electronics, and hardware which can be found in the DARwin-op, has just announced a spanking new pair of force sensing feet. This pair of new feet will feature integrated force sensing resistors (FSR), and will come pre-assembled as a unit, complete with hinge frames and covers. Robotis claims that the exchange of the current feet found in DARwin with the new foot design should be a cinch. Each foot features a quartet of FSR sensors that will have a range of 0.493-65.535 N, and will not be sold as in a single package, but rather (and logically), comes in a pair. Robotis has also released a basic library to monitor the output of each sensor on a real-time basis. So far, the feet will retail for $449.90 a pop, but despite that price, they are already “sold out”.
