Dell has Windows 8 tablet plans

Dell might not have done too well in the smartphone market with their Dell Streak series, but that does not mean the computer manufacturer is going to throw in the towel in this segment anytime soon. No sir, they are looking into a future of tablets, and Windows 8 will definitely be in the picture. Dell’s CEO Michael Dell claims that there is a growing demand for a tablet device which will be powered by Windows 8 – although he did not reveal where he got information on this potential trend from. With the new iPad looking rather solid, especially with 4G connectivity thrown into the mix, it would definitely be challenging times ahead for Windows 8 to break into the tablet industry, although during the recent Windows 8 Consumer Preview, everything looked quite impressive. Basically, Dell’s game plan is to siphon iPad users over to the Windows camp. Do you think they will succeed in this mission?

Dell: Dell Inc. is one of largest technology corporations in the world. Michael Dell started the company in 1984, and it sold computers built from stock components. Previously named PCs Limited, the company created the "Turbo PC," the company's first computer. In 1988, the company changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation. Dell sells personal computers, servers, data storage devices, network switches, software, and computer peripherals. Dell acquired computer hardware company Alienware in 2006, and Perot Systems, an information technology services provider, in 2009. Dell is also considered as the third largest PC vendors in the world, next to HP and Lenovo (as of 12/30/2013).

Windows 8: Windows 8 was revealed during CES 2011 and formally launched on October 26 2012. This new version of Microsoft operating system (OS) aims at bridging the gap between desktop OS and mobile OS. To ensure API compatibility between Windows 8, Windows 8 RT (for ARM-based processor) and Windows Phone 8, Microsoft has unified the code base of all those operating systems. This should make it very easy for developers develop once and deploy on all platforms with a minimal amount of tweaks. The most visible change is the Metro design language, which is very much suited for mobile applications.
