Arm Holdings of the UK have come up with a low-power computer chip known as the Flycatcher, and it can be used to connect traffic lights, parking meters, fridges and get this – even forests, to the Internet. The whole idea behind the Flycatcher is part of Arm’s efforts to expand its empire that will range from smartphones to tablets. They intend to connect a slew of devices to the Internet before 2020 is over. Imagine Internet-controlled traffic lights that will make life easier for everyone, as it can be co-ordinated to ease congestion in the event of an accident, or perhaps being carefully programmed so that ambulances or even VIP motorcades can gain a speedy passage through normally busy city centers.

How about hooking up the Flycatcher on trees that are located in the remotest parts of the Amazon in order to monitor rainfall, or perhaps being hooked to irrigation pipes on African farms so that water wastage is reduced. How many other ways can you think of utilizing the Flycatcher in everyday situations?
