Records are there to be broken, and Kony 2012, a half hour documentary concerning Ugandan rebel leader Joseph Kony, has ended up as the most viral video to date, racking up over 100 million views in less than a week – six days, to be exact. Researcher Visible Measures claims that Kony 2012 actually outpaced other record-setting viral videos, and Susan Boyle’s performance on Britain’s Got Talent three years ago does come close, touching 70 million views in the same number of days. To place that in contrast, Old Spice’s “Responses” campaign arrived at the 70 million mark five months after it launched. Just how did Visible Measures arrive at this figure? Well, they tracked the original Vimeo version of Kony in addition to responses to the video. Well, what do you think will be the next viral video down the road? I suppose Kony 2012 will be hard to beat, just like how many people are starting to think that Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer of all time.
