Tired of not being able to type with only one hand on your current Android keyboard, or feel that the keys you have are too tiny? Well, the folks over at Exideas have come up with an alternative keyboard for your Android device called MessagEase. The keyboard gets rid of the traditional QWERTY arrangement that we’re used to and replaces it with a brand new layout that is said to be better and more efficient for typing on a phone/tablet.

Instead of having to hunt and peck for tiny keys on your phone, MessagEase lets users input characters by tapping and sliding on its 9-key layout. And if you’re wondering how can 9 keys contain all the alphabets you need, some letters require a combination of tapping and sliding, while the most frequently used ones only need a tap. I gave the keyboard a go, and it seems pretty intimidating and hard to learn at first. Fortunately, Exideas have come up with some games that will help you settle down with the new keyboard.

Coming from Swype and SwifKey X, it’s definitely a huge transition for me, but I can see MessagEase being used over more traditional keyboards especially for folks who like typing with only one hand. Well, if you’re interested in giving it a shot, MessagEase is available for free on the Android Market. Be sure to download the accompanying wordlist for text prediction features as well.
