Nokia were recently granted  a slide-to-unlock patent that they can call their own, which might just be the tonic to prevent legal eagles from other companies to come knocking on their doors in the future. Well, the Finnish smartphone manufacturing company has also decided to file for another patent – US patent application 20120062371, where it will touch on the area of a topical haptic notification system. This particular patent application has a first claim that talks about “An apparatus comprising: a material attachable to skin, the material capable of detecting a magnetic field and transferring a perceivable stimulus to the skin, wherein the perceivable stimulus relates to the magnetic field.” I guess that with ferromagnetic powder in use, the material is able to respond to magnetic fields, allowing it to vibrate in response. I guess this will definitely be a change from what we are used to in terms of interacting with a smartphone, and hopefully, more light will be shed on it down the road.
