Sewage plants can double up as power stationsHow do you turn something that stinks to the utmost heavens into a source of power? That is definitely possible, with a new device which could potentially be used to transform sewage plants into power stations. This particular breakthrough will see the combination of fuel cell with other technologies, delivering much-needed juice to power entire water grids. We are talking about using sewage to generate electricity using a new device, where it will merge a fuel cell with other technologies in order to convert waste water treatment stations into power plants.

Scientists believe that this could deliver enough power for entire water grids, and according to Professor Bruce Logan, “We certainly could take care of the whole water system: the treating and pumping of water, which currently requires substantial amounts of power. We also treated the organic matter much faster.” The proof of concept has been published already, and the ultimate aim would be to optimize the electricity generation at its optimal level.
