Now here is a unique method of capturing portraits of a person or a breathtaking landscape – all you need to do is simply frame the photo with your hands, and the Ubi-Camera will get the job done after that. No, magic is not involved here, but rather, this prototype miniature camera that is being developed by a research group at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences will be able to perform a modern day miracle through the simple gesture of bringing both hands together, just like in the old days. The Ubi-Camera will need to be attached to your index finger, where you follow up by forming a rectangle with both thumbs and index fingers. This rectangle resembles the viewfinder, and whenever you push hard with your thumb, a photo will be captured. The camera itself comes with a range sensor, where framing is determined by the distance between the camera and the photographer’s face. The lens at this point in time will feature a fixed focal length, and you will need a PC to perform a digital zoom. Obviously, future improvements to this prototype will see a higher degree of performance and precision.
