Lenovo has issued a recall for their range of ThinkCentre all-in-one desktops because of a component defect underneath the hood which might actually cause the desktops to overheat – running the risk of you starting a bonfire at your work desk. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is concerned about this development, and hence Lenovo has already recalled 13,000 more ThinkCentre M90z and M70z models after a fire and smoke incidents were reported in the US. In fact, the government agency did the right thing by asking consumers to quit using the computers – pronto.

Just to get a bigger picture on what ThinkCentre desktops are all about, these are all-in-one PCs that have components integrated within a monitor, and while the design alone looks great since plenty of bulk has been eliminated, a faulty design or component gone haywire will result in such a situation. The expanded recall will also comprise of desktops which were sold via online channels as well as through distributors from May 2010 through March 2011.

If you think that you are one of the affected, then check the manufacturing date code which can be verified on a label which is located underneath the ThinkCentre itself. The expanded recall will include models with code numbers 201 to 203 and 1201 to 1203.
