The hospitality industry has not remained stagnant all these years, and it is interesting to note that most hotels and resorts these days have a membership reward program or even an executive level lobby for you to check-in, giving you an exclusive feel instead of jostling with a long line of hungry, tired and irritated travelers. Hotel Brussels decided to up the ante by working with OpenWays to install Mobile Key, a smartphone-based solution which enables guests to skip the front-desk. Your smartphone is now your room key, and Hotel Brussels’ 424 rooms will feature locks that have been integrated with Mobile Key by OpenWays. Relying on the principle of Crypto Acoustic Credential (CAC) to open doors while skipping long check-in queues, I would say that this might just be the next big thing to hotel locks, being as big a jump as the regular metal key to that of a keycard/passcard.
