The irony of this particular advertisement is, it piques your interest and in the attempt to “kill the cat”, so to speak, you actually fall for the advertiser’s bait. Sure, the girl trio Perfume from Japan is currently taking a crack at the world music market with their new album “JPN”, and require all the promotional muscle that they can muster – even when they are back home. This ad in Shibuya is a good example, where you will need to plug in your own headphones to hear their latest single, Spring of Life. Plenty of folks have already plugged into the wall ever since this campaign was launched, and it does seem to be effective to capture one’s attention.

It is rather strange that one can just listen to the album by picking it up – on the tried and tested CD format, of course. Other than that, such an ad campaign can only mean one thing – folks in Japan carry their headphones around a whole lot more often than folks of every other nation, or so that is what I am led to believe.
