Smuggling iOS devices into China is nothing new. There have been several creative ways smugglers have tried and this is the latest of them. This time around, it appears that the smugglers have attempted to sneak the iPhone past immigration by hiding them in beer bottles. Yes, you read that right, beer bottles! So how exactly did they fit three iPhones in a beer bottle? What they did was they cut the beer bottle in half without sharing the glass, wrap three unboxed iPhones in plastic, put it in and piece the bottle back together.

The Chinese custom officers discovered this racket as an elderly lady attempted to cross the Sha Tau Kok border with empty beer bottles. Now this is a pretty common scenario where empty beer bottles and cans are salvaged for recycling and where a couple of dollars can be earned by turning in empty bottles and cans. However due to the weight discrepancy between some of the bottles (some were genuinely empty while the others were stuffed with iPhones), the officers decided to investigate the matter. They reportedly managed to recover 216 iPhone 4s and iPhone 4S’ in the process. Pretty creative, huh? Check out the video above to see how they did it.
